Around 77,000 work visas are up for grabs for highly-skilled Filipinos hoping to work in Qatar, the country’s labor minister told Philippine Ambassador Wildredo Santos.

Santos recently paid a courtesy call on the recently-appointed Qatar labor minister Dr. Issa Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi to discuss issues faced by overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“I acknowledge with appreciation the ongoing labor reforms of Qatar that will surely benefit its migrant worker population, including OFWs,” Santos said in a speech, promising Al-Nuaimi to assist in the recruitment of qualified OFWs.

According to a press release, the labor minister invited Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to visit Qatar.

Both nations will soon convene the 3rd Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on Labor Matters in the Philippines, after the first meeting was held in Bohol and the second in Doha. RAM
