THE GOVERNMENT has advised Filipinos currently in France and those planning to travel to exercise vigilance and ensure their safety following the terrorist attack on Bastille Day in Nice.
In an advisory, the Department of Foreign Affairs also urged Filipinos to keep themselves apprised of the latest situation in France.
“Everyone is requested to exercise vigilance and caution and to be aware of their surroundings, with a view to ensuring their personal security,” read the DFA advisory.
Last week, 84 people died when a man the Islamic State claimed was its soldier drove a truck into a crowd during the Bastille Day celebration in Nice.
In Manila, the French Embassy hosted a memorial and held a minute of silence in honor of the victims of the attack in Nice and to stand in solidarity with France against terrorism.
A Catholic bishop meanwhile appealed to overseas Filipino workers to look out for each other and be their “brother’s keeper.”
Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos expressed his sympathies to the victims of the attack in Nice.
“As we are grateful to God that no OFW suffered during the attack, we advise them to be more cautious as to their safety and be the “brother’s keeper” of one another,” he said on Monday. Estrella Torres and Julie M. Aurelio
