MANILA — A 34-year-old Nigerian national was arrested in a surveillance operation by anti-illegal drug operatives of the Northern Police District along McArthur Hi-way in Caloocan City on Monday evening.

Didicus Ohaeri, a businessman residing along the Alabang Zapote Road, Las Piñas City, was arrested around 6 p.m. after operatives from the NPD District Anti-Illegal Drugs (DAID) caught him in possession of four heat-sealed transparent sachets of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydochloride) weighing less than 0.40 gram each through a tip from a police asset.

Initial investigation by SPO2 Fidel Cabinta showed that Ohaeri had just come from the Majestic Massage parlor in Barangay 78 when PO3 Henry Pineda intervened between him and the police asset and discovered the illegal drugs inside the suspect’s black lady bag.

Cabinta said Ohaeri, who claimed to be taking a masteral degree in the country, tested negative for illegal drugs. The suspect declined to be interviewed.

Ohaeri is currently detained at the NPD-DAID detention unit and has been visited only by his Filipina wife and lawyer.

He was to undergo inquest proceedings on Tuesday afternoon for violation of Article 2 of the Republic Act 9165 or the law punishing the illegal possession of dangerous drugs.

Investigators are still verifying the extent of his involvement in illegal drugs.  (With a report from Jhena Sy, Inquirer trainee) SFM
