MANILA, Philippines—Accidental overdose, suicide or foul play?
The Manila Police District is now looking into the death of a Canadian national whose decomposing body was discovered early morning Tuesday in his rented condominium unit.
Charles Horvath, 55, who was staying at the Grand Tower II Bldg. on Vito Cruz St., was found dead on his bed, with saliva and blood oozing from his mouth but with no external injuries.
The security guard was making his rounds on the eighth floor when the foul smell coming from Horvath’s room prompted him to alert his supervisor, who in turn, called the MPD.
The case investigator, Police Officer 2 Bernardo Cayabyab of the MPD-Homicide section, reported that neighbors last saw Horvath alive aboard an elevator days ago. He was allegedly complaining of a back ache he had been suffering for 10 days already.
His neighbors noted, however, that Horvath had seemed “unusually silent” in the following days, Cayabyab said.
Fueling the speculations of suicide was Horvath’s online friend Myrna Tejeresas, a school teacher from Batangas, who claimed that the Canadian had been texting her about his depression after learning of his daughter’s pregnancy in Canada, and after Tejerasas declined his offer of a relationship.
Tejeresas told police that Horvath had been taking drugs for his depression.
The Canadian embassy has been alerted about the death.
