SF Bay Area Fil-Am professionals to host scholarship awards gala

/ 01:26 AM May 12, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO – An organization of Filipino professionals is hosting its annual gala scholarship awards night at the Wattis Room on Davies Symphony Hall at 6:00 p. m. on Sunday, June 5.

Recently transitioned to a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization the gala host, Your Filipino Professionals Association, is on its 14th year, providing financial assistance to deserving graduating high school students who have demonstrated leadership skills and have decided to pursue higher education.

The scholarship program is for local San Francisco Bay Area graduating high school students selected based on academic achievement, community involvement and application metrics set by YFPA.

The YFPA gala also fetes notable professionals in the Filipino community. Fil-Am KTVU News Reporter Azenith Smith, Tech start up Flipcause CEO Emerson Valiao and Eskabo Daan Filipino Martial Arts Co-Owner Joseph Bautista will speak on the power of collaboration in the presence of the YFPA scholars and their families.

Entertainment will be led by emcee Lady Ray of 106KMEL. Musical performances by Sina and Crywolffs will be featured. Raffle prizes include Golden State Warriors Steph Curry Jersey, iHeartRadio event tickets and art works from local Fil-Am Bay Area artists

The evening’s theme, “Collaboration is The New Bayanihan,” is a Filipino value that gives today’s professionals an advantage in their endeavors. It will emphasize how different individuals from all walks of life have achieved more by working well with others.

This event is inspired by the recent creation of SOMA Pilipinas, the Filipino Social Heritage Special Use District (FSHD) located in the South of Market (SoMa) area of San Francisco. It is a landmark achievement that was possible because of the collaboration of many community leaders and groups working together in the “bayanihan” spirit.
