The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has joined a chorus of condemnation of the killing of Canadian national John Ridsdel by members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG).
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the DFA said that Ridsdel’s death was a “senseless act of violence.”
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) extends its deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. John Ridsdel and to the Government and people of Canada. We join you in grieving for the lives lost in this senseless act of violence,” the statement read.
The DFA said that it backs the operations of government security forces to bring the terrorists to justice.
“We support our brave men in uniform – some of whom have sacrificed life and limb – who remain relentless in rescuing the remaining hostages and bringing these nefarious elements to justice,” the statement said.
