SAN FRANCISCO– A Filipina former employee of the Bellagio Hotel on the Las Vegas strip is suing the establishment, claiming her boss made racial slurs against her.

Vilma Miel, an immigrant from the Philippines, worked for almost 20 years as a cage cashier at the resort which was inspired by the Lake Como town of Bellagio, Italy.

However, she has filed a lawsuit against Bellagio, accusing her male manager of humiliating her, calling her an “old woman” and saying Filipinos “originated from monkeys,” according to a report by TMZ

She also claims she was discriminated against after developing carpal tunnel syndrome in 2015. Miel reportedly traveled to the Philippines for treatment, but was suspended and then fired from her job when she returned.

Miel is suing based on national origin, age and disability discrimination.
