LOS ANGELES–Mika Gorospe, 14, a San Francisco Bay Area native, traveled to Los Angeles several times these past months to compete in the “LA Voice Singing Contest.” It was well worth the mileage.

Gorospe ended up in the top ten over 120 other competitors. In fierce competition, she placed 5th place after a series of rounds.

Mika proudly represented various demographics during the competition. She was the only Filipina and the youngest participant to place in the top ten, and she snagged the Rising Star award for Outstanding EEI Next Gen. As a part of this award is getting the opportunity to record, which she looks forward to.

“The whole experience was really good for me,” Mika said. I believe that joining this competition helped me to reinforce and emphasize the fact that I don’t give up. Every single day I was practicing and rehearsing my songs and then we would drive down to Los Angeles for me to compete.”

Mika has been seen recently in the Bay Area performing for community events and in other concerts. She released her own album, “Some Day,” last year featuring Tagalog and English numbers and original songs that she composed under the guidance of PnC Music Company where she attends voice lessons. She is under the management of Wynn Star Productions.

Mika, having sung since she was very young, is no stranger to the stage and looks for opportunities to prform in front of an audience and show her talents. During each round of competition she brought her best performance to the table and felt proud of each and every one of the songs she delivered to the audience and judges.

“For my first song, I sang “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” because I felt confident singing it and it showed my vocal range. For my second song, I sang “Listen” because I feel that it has a good message. And for my last song I chose “One Night Only,” which was a catchy song with good rhythm,” Mika said.

With no current projects, Mika is taking time to focus on school while still making time to work on her acting career as well. She hopes to return to the Philippines to pursue her dreams and break into the entertainment industry. After touring there last year, Mika got a taste of the industry. Now she aims to audition for the GMA Artists Center.

“The Filipino community supported me by encouraging me to do my best and to not give up no matter what happens,” she concluded.
