Burglars struck at a Mandaue City bank on Saturday and fled with at least P40,000 worth of electronic gadgets.
Police said the burglar’s got lucky after the alarm system and closed circuit television (CCTV) of China Bank in SB Cabahug Street, barangay Centro, Mandaue City, malfunctioned due to a drained battery powering the system’s uninterrupted power supply.
Investigation showed that the burglars detached the exit door of the establishment using a screw driver.
Once inside, they stole three flat screen computer monitors worth P6,000 each and a computer’s central processing unit (CPU) worth at least P20,000.
The break-in was discovered yesterday morning when the Security guard went on duty at 9 a.m.
The bank has no security guard in the evening since it relies on its bank alarm system and CCTV to secure the bank.
Security Guard Nicanor Zunega, 29, of the Puritan Industrial Security Agency, discovered the burglary when they found that the barrier to block people from seeing the exit door was removed.
He rushed inside and saw the detached exit door. He then called the chief of security of their security agency and called the police.
A few minutes later, the bank manager, Victor Mayol, arrived as he was waiting for the lechon to be delivered to the establishment for the fiesta celebration.
As of yesterday, however, Mayol couldn’t say if there’s cash missing since the vault was not touched by the burglars.
Mandaue police were still investigating the incident.
