In a lottery news release, Atanacio said he had a funny feeling that he should play Lotto 6/49 on the February 6 draw. “I don’t always play Lotto 6/49,” he said, adding, “but the day before the draw, I just had a good feeling about playing this time.”

That lucky feeling got him the $1,000,000 Canadian. Atanacio said he could not believe he had become a million-dollar winner.

“I scanned my ticket at the store and thought, ‘This can’t be real!’” he said. “I checked my ticket again and again at that store. I went to a second store to check the ticket and make sure it was a winner.” He finally received confirmation when he contacted Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC).

He plans to use his winning to pay off his mortgage and to help his family in the Philippines. He also plans to take a trip to the Philippines to visit his family during an extended vacation.

Atanacio bought his winning ticket at International News, located at 120-261055 Cross Iron Blvd. in Rockyview, Alberta.
