Filipina stabbed to death in Hawaii, husband arrested

Melita Fajotina was knifed to death apparently by her husband, Isagani Fajotina.

SAN FRANCISCO–Police arrested a Filipino veteran of the Vietnam War after his wife of 35 years was found dead of stab wounds in their home in Aliamanu, Oahu, Hawaii on Monday morning, January 18.

Melita Fajotina, 65, died at the home on Wanaka Street at about 5:35 a.m.

Her husband, Isagani Fajotina, 65, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition with a self-inflicted stab wound. The couple moved to Hawaii from the Philippines and had been married for 35 years

Police arrested Isagani Tuesday, on suspicion of second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder and classified the case as a murder and attempted suicide case. He was released pending further investigation, but remains hospitalized.

A family member said Fajotina, a Vietnam veteran, was suffering from mental issues and he may have overdosed on prescription drugs.

Fajotina worked with his wife at Queen’s Medical Center where he is a janitor and she was a nursing assistant. The couple lived with several family members, including their daughter and two grandchildren.
