Wanted: Energetic interns for Asian American vote drive

WASHINGTON, D.C.—A voter education organization is looking for “energetic and motivated interns” who are passionate about civic engagement to join its team here in the U.S. capital for the Summer of 2016.

Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) promotes the civic participation of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) in electoral and political activities at the national, state and local levels.

The APIAVote Internship Program encourages and cultivates young student leaders to explore a career in the public sector or the political arena. This internship program will also provide hands-on experience and training on how to organize and implement voter activities to increase the participation of AAPIs in the electoral process.

For the summer of 2016, the organization is offering both paid and unpaid internships based in Washington, D.C. Persons interested in remote, unpaid internships throughout the year, please apply as well.

Interns will get hands-on experience working on APIAVote’s YouthVote campaign to register to vote and turnout young AANHPIs, planning the Las Vegas Presidential Candidates Town Hall in August, and other communications or media strategies to better engage communities across the country.

Eligible applicants include undergraduate and graduate students, with applications due by March 11, 2016. Completed applications include the submission of an online form as well as requested documents (below) sent to [email protected]

Applications must include:

  1. Submission of online application form
    • In the online form, submit a 500 word essay on the question: “Why are you interested in the APIAVote internship program and what are tangible steps or ideas you can do to increase AAPI youth civic engagement?”
  2. Following documents sent to [email protected]:
    • Resume including Education, Work Experience, Political Experience, Extracurricular Activities, Awards/Honors
    • Copy of most current academic transcript
    • Two letters of references
