CIDG nabs ‘Gapos Gang’ leader, suspect in killing of Japanese in 2015

MANILA, Philippines — In time for their 63rd anniversary, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) scored big with the arrest of a robbery gang leader who has also been tagged in the killing of a Japanese national in Malate in 2015.

In a statement, CIDG Director Victor Deona announced the arrest of Amie Magnaan, the suspect in the killing of Japanese Tomoyuki Takasugi at the Malate Bay View Mansion on May 17, 2015.

Chief Insp. Elizabeth Jasmin, the CIDG spokesperson, said Magnaan once worked as the maintenance man of Takasugi, who owned a bar in Manila. Magnaan had stabbed Takasugi dead when they got into an argument over repairs of the lighting in Takasugi’s bar. Magnaan had then robbed the Japanese national before fleeing.

Magnaan was arrested by the CIDG Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU) around Tuesday noon along the C3 Road, Marcelo St, NBBS, Navotas City.

The police team served a warrant of arrest for robbery with homicide, in connection with the Takasugi case, issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 10 Judge Virgilio Alameda.

Magnaan is also known as the head of the “Magnaan Gapos Gang,” notorious in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces for hogtying their robbery victims.

He was previously arrested for robbery with intimidation of a person in September 1995 in Mariveles, Bataan, but was released in early 2009.

Magnaan also has a pending case of murder in Lamao, Bataan, dating back to April 2009.

Magnaan is now temporarily detained at the CIDG AOCU office.  SFM
