A Filipino man in Dubai has died after hitting a lamppost while riding a “hoverboard,” according to a report.
Citing Col. Saif Muhair Al Mazroui of the Dubai Police, the Khaleej Times report said the man hit the post when he lost balance.
Mazroui added that there were cases in the United Arab Emirates where riders sustained serious injuries when the batteries of the device died.
The report said the Filipino’s death was the second hoverboard-related death in UAE and the first in Dubai.
Khaleej Times said a six-year-old Emirati died in Abu Dhabi last October after being ran over by a car.
“The Traffic Federal Council has banned the use of these boards on public roads for these reasons,” Mazroui added. RC
