Major Filemon Tan Jr., the information officer of the Western Mindanao Command, said the ferry capsized off Bum-bum Island in Sempornah between 8 and 10 p.m. Wednesday.

No death has been reported but 12 of those aboard the ferry had to be rushed to Malaysian hospitals for injuries, he said, quoting reports from Malaysian authorities.

Tan said the vessel, MV Juhari, left Bongao in Tawi-Tawi with 158 people on board for Sabah around 2 p.m. Wednesday.
