Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has arrived in Manila to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
Medvedev arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at 8 a.m.
The Russian prime minister will represent President Vladimir Putin in the high-level meeting.
The Kremlin announced last week that Putin chose Medvedev to take his place because the prime minister will be having meetings in Malaysia and Cambodia after attending the Apec.
Medvedev would attend the East Asia summit in Malaysia on Nov. 21 to 22 and would pay a working visit to Cambodia on Nov. 23 to 24.
Putin called Aquino last Friday to confirm his non-attendance at the summit and to discuss bilateral relations between Russia and the Philippines.
Medvedev became President of Russia from 2008 to 2012. He holds a law degree from St. Petersburg State University and worked as a professor there.
