Fil-Am businessman re-elected to Virginia House of Delegates

Ron Villanueva, re-elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.

SAN FRANCISCO—Filipino American Republican Ron Villanueva, 45, was re-elected Tuesday, November 3 to the Virginia House of Delegates, defeating challenger Susan Hippen.

Villanueva, a small-business owner and former Virginia Beach City Councilman, defeated Democratic challenger Susan Hippen, whom he also defeated for the same 21st District seat in 2013.

Villanueva has been a state delegate since 2009 representing constituencies in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake. He ran on jobs and the economy. Hippen, a retired Navy master chief, ran on issues like Medicaid expansion and earned the endorsement of the Virginia Education Association.

Since January 2014, Villanueva raised $270,063, and Hippen brought in $85,442, according to data provided by the Virginia Public Access Project. Villanueva was named chair of the House Committee on Transportation in May.
