SAN FRANCISCO — A Tampa, Florida, police officer shot and killed a Filipino American youth after a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle early Monday morning, October 26. Police apprehended three others in the incident.
Kobvey Igbuhay of Pinellas Park died at St. Joseph’s Hospital after Officer Jimmy Houston, a 15-year veteran of the force, shot him during the chase.
Police also identified Shakira Rodriguez, 18, and Dominic Robles, 18, as suspects. Two others were nabbed but not identified because of their ages, 16 and 17.
Police said that at around 2:30 a.m. officers spotted a stolen SUV with three males and one female, all teenagers. A police helicopter followed the vehicle until the suspects fled into a wooded area behind the First Presbyterian Church of Tampa on Humphrey Stree
The suspects reportedly left the car in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church of Tampa at 4307 Humphrey St. and fled into a wooded, swampy area behind the church.
Igbuhay was shot after he allegedly attempted to drown both the K-9 Titus and Houston, its officer handler in the swamp. Houston, who was wearing 35 pounds of equipment, fired one shot. Igbuhay died in the hospital
