Be watchful of foreigners using fake Filipino passports—BI

Manila, Philippines –The Bureau of Immigration on Monday called for heightened vigilance against foreign nationals using fake Filipino passports to cross Philippine borders to evade immigration laws.

Immigration Commissioner issued the call following the arrest of a Chinese national who attempted to use a fake Filipino passport to exit the country.

Wu Wenbing was intercepted after presenting a Filipino passport under the name Sam Go for departure formalities.

However, Immigration officer Melody Carranza detected irregularities in his documents. Upon questioning, Wu apparently failed to speak in Filipino and was unable to comprehend questions propounded to him by Carranza.

Wu was subsequently charged for deportation under Section 45(e) of the Philippine Immigration Act, for fraudulently misrepresenting himself as a Filipino. He later admitted the charges by requesting voluntary deportation.
