RH bill unnecessary

/ 08:43 AM May 08, 2011

Last Friday my sister’s (Chingbee) family and I went to an auction house in Subic Freeport where they procured a tourist bus and two coasters for their business firm, Catalina Car Rentals.

As usual in going to Subic we had to take the long stretch of highway built during the time of president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo called the North Luzon Expressway NLEX that shortened our travel so much and made it more convenient.

Again upon observing massive unoccupied lands one can con Ludendorff and safely say that there is really no need for the passage of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill that Congress is rushing to pass because there is no overpopulation in our country but congestion of areas like Metro Cebu.

Congestion is more a concern of local government units. Mayor Mike Rama for instance is addressing the problem of illegal occupants in and along the Mahiga Creek.

FEATURED STORIES

I think that even before the rainy season comes it is incumbent upon any local government to clear the rivers of illegal occupants for their safety. It would be too much for illegal occupants to ask for a relocation site from the city. If that were the case, any Tom Dick and Harry can just illegally occupy any property and once they are to be demolished demand relocation thus getting a reward for their illegal act. This encourages squatting instead of solving it.

Let us stop politicos from encouraging squatting. Some politicians are capitalizing on the situation by promising squatters relocation when to do so is not necessary.

My observations when I travelled convinced me not to support the RH bill because it is not necessary.

I think the government can make use of its imagination better in trying to address population problem in better terms without insulting the sensitivities of the Catholics in our country. Today I am against the RH bill.

The death of Osama bin Laden augurs well for democratic countries. The no.1 terrorist is already dead thanks to the American Navy Seals who carried out the raid in the mansion of bin Laden in Pakistan.

Instead of celebrating the death of Bin Laden, many countries are threatened by possible retaliatory attacks from the Al Qaida forces thus making them beef up security.

We are indeed happy as a member of our peaceful world that Osama bin Laden is dead but the networks of terrorism will continue to be run by his followers. Now is not the time to be complacent because anytime they can mount an attack.

Let us continue to pray for world peace. But it would be interesting to know how the raid was carried out by the Americans and movies shall be made depicting the whole story.

The next challenge for us Filipinos is to see to it that the terror activities in Mindanao shall be given a peaceful resolution.

I am happy to inform our readers that the University of San Carlos Department of Political Science has already found a new home on the second floor of the Law and Governance Building at the main campus.

The department is now under the newly created School of Law and Governance that shall be offering short courses on governance like local legislation and parliamentary rules and procedure.
