Ten young Filipino entrepreneurs will represent the Philippines in a business summit in Europe on October.
The 10 Filipino startups won an all-expense paid trip to “Ye! Social Enterprise Boost Camp” in Amsterdam on October 12 to 16 to showcase their business ideas before European investors.
The winners were chosen from among the 20 young entrepreneurs during the Startup Summit Philippines held at the SM Megamall Trade Hall on August 8.
Joe Maristela, an angel investor and serial entrepreneur who served as one of the judges, said that sending the ten Filipino startups to the business summit “is a major milestone for our local tech community.”
“With the delegation of startups we’re sending to ‘Ye! Social Enterprise Boost Camp,’ we’re showing the world that we can not only work hard, but that we can create great companies as well. Together, these ten startups can begin to make the Philippines known as a hub for innovative, world-class technology,” Maristela said.
Maristela said the camp would provide the ten Filipino entrepreneurs with workshops on how to accelerate their business, networking opportunities with European entrepreneurs and the other fellows in attendance, and a capstone pitching event to investors in the region.
She said the ten startups have business ideas that could make their industries successful.
“To make this a reality, however, they need to pick up the best practices for growing a startup, and this is exactly what the ‘Ye! Social Enterprise Boost Camp’ will provide them: world-class training,” Maristela said.
Filipino entrepreneur Lyle Jover, the co-founder and CEO of Raket.ph, said she was excited to “build an international network and learn from these investors and entrepreneurs.”
“As I want to scale Raket.ph globally, what I pick up from my colleagues at ‘Ye! Social Enterprise Boost Camp’ will prove invaluable; it will show me what I have to do to empower more freelancers around the world,” Jover said.
“To gear up for the ‘Ye! Social Enterprise Boost Camp,’ I’ve been refining my pitch deck for international investors. Together with my batchmates, I want to show Europe and the rest of the world that Philippine technology is among the best, globally,” said Jover. JE
