PACIFIC Partnership, the largest annual multilateral humanitarian assistance disaster relief preparedness mission of the United States in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, recently concluded the first half of the mission in Capiz.
The hospital ship USNS Mercy completed 15 days of operations that included a four-day disaster preparedness symposium, search and rescue exercises, helicopter operations and vehicle extrication training, the US Embassy said on Monday.
A multi-national team of military and civilian medical professionals provided surgical procedures and other treatments to citizens in the province.
About 900 personnel from the US, Australia, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan and New Zealand participated in the mission.
USNS Mercy arrived in Subic on Tuesday for the second phase of the mission. It will be there from August 5 to 14 for subject matter expert exchange events and community relations projects as the ship undergoes routine maintenance.
The US Embassy said that Pacific Partnership missions to date have provided real world medical care to approximately 270,000 patients and veterinary services to more than 38,000 animals.
