Mandaluyong City sets Zumba world record

Mandaluyong City got the Guinness World Record for the “largest Zumba class in a single location” on Sunday.

With 12,975 participants, Mandaluyong City has beaten Cebu’s previous record of 8,232 posted last year.

The participants woke up as early as 3 a.m. to be part of the event.

Mandaluyong City’s Martinez and Nueve de Pebrero Streets and Fabella Road became a sea of yellow as the yellow-clad participants took part in the Zumba class.

In a post on her Facebook account, Councilor Charisse Abalos thanked city residents who took part of the historic feat.

“Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng sumuporta at nakilahok! (Thank you for everyone who supported and participated in the event!) This is already part of history!” Abalos said.

Celebrity and certified Zumba instructor Regine Tolentino also participated in the event.

The event, which was dubbed “Kayang-kayang Magsayaw,” was part of the activities held by the local government to celebrate the birthday of Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos Jr. on Sunday. AJH/ With a report from Jovic Yee, Philippine Daily Inquirer
