WASHINGTON, DC – A Republican Party project to recruit candidates from diverse communities has been re-launched for 2015-2016 election cycle, with new leaders and election goals.
The Republican State Leadership Committee’s (RSLC) Future Majority Project (FMP) will be headed by former Oklahoma Speaker of the House and Republican National Committee “Rising Star” T.W. Shannon as chair, along with Governors Susana Martinez and Brian Sandoval of New Mexico and Nevada serving as honorary co-Chairs. The new board includes elected and GOP leaders from around the country.
The Future Majority Project seeks to recruit, train and elect Republican candidates from diverse communities on the state level who better represent the full diversity of America.
Minority, women pols wanted
In 2013-2014, FMP recruited hundreds of new candidates and elected 43 new leaders to office. This cycle, FMP aims to recruit 250 new, diverse candidates and see 50 of those candidates appointed or elected to office.
“As someone who has served in the trenches of state government, I understand the importance of recruiting the right candidates with the right message in every district and state across the country,” said Shannon.
“It has been an honor to work with the Future Majority Project in finding and supporting diverse candidates, and I look forward to leading this group into another successful election cycle in 2016.”
“The Republican Party is the party of entrepreneurs, innovators and bold new ideas,” said Governor Sandoval. “I am confident that across the country, more men and women will begin to embrace the goals we have outlined this cycle as we recruit and elect the next generation of Republican leaders.”
Progress
“The progress we have seen in electing diverse Republican candidates over just a few short years is really remarkable,” said Former Puerto Rico Governor and RSLC Board Member Luis Fortuño. “The RSLC understands the important investment of diverse candidate recruitment, and I’m excited to see what FMP has in store for this cycle.”
The 2015-2016 Future Majority Project election metrics include:
- Recruit 250 new, diverse candidates to run for state-level office
- See 50 new, diverse candidates elected or appointed to state-level office
- See 10 diverse “electeds” enter leadership in state-level office
- Spend at least $7 million on women and diverse candidates (women through RSLC’s Right Women, Right Now initiative)
- Expand role and number of FMP “Diversity in Business” roundtables in target states.
