Duterte treats drug law enforcers with Hong Kong vacation

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has rewarded a policeman and an anti-drug operative with a round-trip package tour to Hong Kong, with pocket money taken from his intelligence funds, reportedly for curbing illegal drugs in the city.

Duterte lauded Senior Inspector Ronald Lao, the chief of the San Pedro police station; and Michael del Rosario, a drug enforcement officer, for their job well-done in curbing illegal drugs, as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the region celebrated its 13th year.

Duterte announced as a reward the free, all-expense paid trip to Hong Kong as an incentive for their good work.

The tough-talking mayor who has gained notoriety for his hard stance against crime, has not been known as one to scrimp on his support for the police force, even admitting earlier he has been giving police station commanders some P13,000 for their monthly intelligence and operating expense, and the police director some P50,000 for the same purpose.
