A Filipino woman survived but sustained injuries after jumping off a flyover at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last week, a belated report by the Philippine Embassy said.

In a Facebook post on June 13, the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur said the woman was recovering from a broken leg after falling from a height of five meters last June 9.

Contrary to reports circulating in the Internet, the embassy clarified that the Filipino did not die.

“News have been circulating in social media about a Filipina who allegedly jumped off a flyover at the KLIA2. The Embassy wishes to clarify that the said individual is safe and is recuperating from her injuries at a nearby hospital. There is no truth to the news that she died,” the statement read.

In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM Tuesday, Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Charles Jose said they are still verifying the reason why the Filipino jumped off the flyover.

“Nag-iimbestiga po ang mga pulis sa Malaysia at iu-update po ang ating bansa tungkol sa imbestigasyon (Malaysian police are conducting an investigation and we will update the country about it),” he said.

The embassy urged netizens to be cautious in sharing information regarding the incident on social media because of the “sensitivity of the [woman’s] condition.”

“She was able to call her family in the Philippines during that time. We are extending the necessary assistance for her, including her repatriation from the Philippines when she is already fit for travel,” the embassy said.

Citing the report of Malaysia-based Jhumrea Ayunan in wheninmanila.com, a separate report by Gulf News said the Filipino, who needed to catch her flight back to the Philippines, was reportedly under the influence of drugs when the incident took place.

“We would like to request that we allow her time to rest and recover from the incident,” the embassy added.
