The Philippines on June 21 will join other countries around the world to celebrate the first-ever International Day of Yoga. The local celebration will take place at the SMX Convention Center Taguig at SM Aura from 8 a.m. to noon.
The worldwide theme is “Yoga for Harmony and Peace.”
In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly approved a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate June 21 as International Day of Yoga.
In his address to the General Assembly, Modi said that “yoga… embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment, harmony between man and nature, a holistic approach to health and well-being.”
To make the first observance memorable, the Embassy of India, together with Tech Mahindra and Asia Society Philippines, has planned an enlightening program for the half-day celebration in Manila.
Suitable for all ages and lifestyles, the celebration will display the wide scope of yoga applications. In the first half, Iyengar Yoga Center will give participants an introduction to yoga, followed by a Brahma Kumaris demonstration of Raja Yoga, an ancient system of meditation that enables practitioners to return to a state of inner peace, personal power and self-worth.
In the second part of the morning, Family and Kids Yoga will be presented by Urban Ashram Manila. Art of Living Foundation will discuss and show ways yoga can be used as a tool to eliminate stress.
