2,000 cops to secure meeting of APEC finance officials in Bataan

THE Philippine National Police will be deploying 2,000 policemen to secure a meeting of finance officials of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation this week in Bataan.

The Central Luzon police regional office on Sunday conducted a simulation exercise at the venue in Bagac, Bataan, where the Fiscal Transparency and Taxation Policy Dialogue and Senior Finance Officials’ Meeting will be held from June 9 to 12.

Chief Supt. Ronald Santos, director of the Central Luzon Police, said their policemen have all been geared up to ensure the security and safety of all the participants at the Las Casas de Acuzar in Bagac.

The 2,000 policemen to be deployed for the APEC meeting conducted a simulation exercise to test their security preparation, operational readiness and resources.

Santos said the Site Task Group Bagac was formed to ensure the security of the APEC SFOM summit, as they met with other law enforcement agencies to guarantee the safety and security of all delegates.

The 2,000 policemen will be deployed mostly within the summit venue and the areas where the delegates will be billeted.

“We have been conducting civil disturbance management and rally exercises, convoy exercises and traffic management exercises, as well as ocular inspection and paneling within the venue,” Santos said.

A final pre-deployment conference with interior undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera, who is in charge of the security preparations for the summit and Dir. Ricardo Marquez, national joint task force commander, was held on Sunday in Bataan.
