RAINY days are expected for Cebu with the presence of a “cloud bond” caused by the entry of typhoon Bebeng in the country.
Rafael Tapales, weather observer of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa) Mactan, said there’s no chance for Bebeng to hit Cebu since it is already headed northwest away from the province.
“The cloud bond would be out of Cebu in two to three days,” Tapales said.
Still, he warned that the province should brace for more rains in the latter part of May with the expected onset of the rainy season in June.
Bicol region and Eastern Visayas will experience rains with gusty winds and moderate to rough seas.
The rest of the Visayas and Quezon province will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Mindanao and the rest of Southern Luzon will be mostly cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Tapales warned residents living near landslide prone areas and on coastal areas and riverbanks to be vigilant.
“They should be ready for possible flood and soil movement,” Tapales said.
The rainy weather has affected airlines and passenger vessels in Cebu and Eastern Visayas.
Cebu Coast Guard station commander Rolando Punzalan said six vessels in various ports of Cebu suspended their trips.
Under the rule, Punzalan said, vessels below 1,000 gross tons should not be allowed to sail within the areas under signal number 1.
The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) also confirmed the one-hour delay of one Philippine Airlines flight headed to Incheon, South Korea from its original Saturday schedule due to bad weather.
