WATCH: PH, Vietnam troops play sports in West PH Sea
Filipino and Vietnamese troops played ball games and other sports on Wednesday at a Philippine detachment in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea).
The games took place on Parola Island (Northeast Cay) in the Kalayaan Island Group (Spratly Islands).
A total of 62 personnel from the Philippine Navy and the same number from Vietnamese People’s Navy participated in the event. Among the games played were volleyball, football, tug-of-war, sack race and centipede race.
Philippine Navy spokesperson Col. Edgardo Arevalo said the Vietnamese “were encouraged by the results and they would like to have a follow-on.”
Article continues after this advertisement“The information that we had was they were happy about the turnout of the activity and they would like to have another similar event,” he said.
The Vietnamese Navy held a similar event last year in their detachment Pugad Island (Southwest Cay) located a few miles away. RC
