DOJ-NBI search yields four ‘Ikes’ in Malaysia
The search by Philippine authorities for the man who gave the luggage to Mary Jane Veloso containing 2.6 kilograms of heroin yielded four “Ikes” in Malaysia.
Based on the affidavit of Veloso, when she and her recruiter Ma. Cristina Sergio went to Malaysia in 2010, they met a certain Ike whom Sergio confirmed as a Nigerian national. After Sergio bought her clothes for her trip to Indonesia, Veloso said Ike gave her the luggage which she used for her trip.
Upon reaching Indonesia, Veloso was arrested when authorities discovered the illegal drugs hidden in her luggage.
Members of the Department of Justice -National Bureau of Investigation (DOJ-NBI) already went to Malaysia to track down the “Ike” mentioned by both Sergio and Veloso.
A source privy to the trip said the team has tracked down four “Ikes.” The same source said the NBI was also able to find an “Ike” in Bacoor, Cavite, believed to have ties with the West African Drug Syndicate (WADS).
“So our problem now is, who is the Ike being referred to by Veloso in her affidavit. If only her (Veloso’s) Facebook account is still active, we will know who among the Ikes is the real drug mule recruiter,” the source said, adding that Veloso and “Ike” became friends on Facebook.
