Malaysian found hanging in apartment
MANILA, Philippines—A Malaysian national was found dead inside his apartment in Malate, Manila, late Saturday afternoon, in what police believed to be suicide.
Corny Gan, 57, was found hanging inside his 26th-floor unit at the Manila Residences Tower 1 on Taft Avenue, by his landlord at around 5:25 p.m.
Gan’s landlord, Reynaldo Clara, 60, found Gan hanging by a belt tied around his neck.
Clara told police that he had dropped by to collect delayed rent from Gan based on their agreement. Gan was supposed to pay on September 7.
Gan was last spotted alive at the building at 9 a.m. When nobody was answering Clara’s knocks on the door later in the day, he decided to open the unit with a duplicate key.
The case investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Milbert Balingan of the Manila Police District’s homicide section, said Gan might have been having financial problems as manifested by his inability to pay rent.
