Cebu inmates featured in UK television documentary
MANILA, Philippines – The Cebu dancing inmates are expected anew to capture the world’s attention when their performance in a travel documentary from the United Kingdom is aired, according to a report on Radyo Inquirer.
Over 1,500 inmates from the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) danced before crew of “It’s a Woman’s World” to the beat of ““Hot, hot, hot,” “They Don’t Care About Us,” and “Just the Way You Are” on Friday afternoon, the report said.
Camilla Andersen, director of the documentary to be seen by over 60 million people on UK’s Travel Channel, was quoted as saying in a separate report in Cebu that the dancing inmates were the most “incredible thing” she had seen and that the unique rehabilitation program would help improve the morale of the prisoners.
Andersen said Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia had told her about these inmates who gained international recognition in 2007 when their dance performance of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” generated 15 million hits on YouTube.
