FILIPINO boxing champion and legislator Manny Pacquiao took a time off from his intense training for the highly-anticipated “fight of the century” against American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. to express his sympathy and support to the victims of the destructive magnitude 7.8 earthquake which rocked Nepal Saturday.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Pacquiao said that he and his family are praying for the victims of the earthquake.
The video also featured his wife, Jinkee.
“Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters who are suffering from the recent earthquake in Nepal,” Pacquiao said.
Pacquiao even quoted a Bible verse urging Nepalese to be “strong and courageous.”
“You are not alone, Nepal, my family and I pray for your safety and deliverance. God bless you all,” he ended.
Meanwhile, Hollywood celebrities and musicians took to social media to express their support for the victims of the earthquake which destroyed historic buildings and triggered avalanches on Mt. Everest.
Actress Mandy Moore said on her Twitter account: “Thoughts, prayers and love to all affected by the devastating and deadly #NepalEarthquake.”
Host Ellen DeGeneres said: “My thoughts are with everyone in Nepal. Sending my love.”
Singer Missy Elliot said on her Twitter account that her prayers “go out to the families in #Nepal during this heartbreaking time.”
Some celebrities like Nick Jonas, Ricky Martin, Zoe Saldana, and P!nk used their social media accounts to raise funds for the earthquake victims.
According to the latest report of the Nepalese government on Sunday, more than 2,000 people were killed due to the earthquake which struck Nepal Saturday.
