MANILA, Philippines—At least three overseas Filipino workers (OFWS) in Saudi Arabia have reportedly contracted the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome -Coronavirus (Mers-CoV).
According to the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH), 20 confirmed cases of MERS-COV were recorded following a checking conducted February 22 to 28.
MOH said the patients include nine Saudis, three Filipinos, three Yemenis, two Indians, and one Egyptian, one Sudanese and one Syrian.
The patients’ identities, however were not revealed.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said they have yet to verify the information.
“We’re getting details from our embassy,” Jose told INQUIRER.net
On February 11, an OFW nurse who arrived in the country tested positive for the deadly virus but was later treated after undergoing medication at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
