LOS ANGELES, California – A yoga-cultural fundraiser will raise money to build a school for 200 children on the remote island of Mina-Anod, Llorente in East Samar, which was ravaged by Super Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest recorded typhoon to make landfall with over 11 million people affected.

Natalie Macam of Tiger Wave Yoga will be presenting the 2nd Annual Fundraiser at Mahasukha Center in Los Angeles. The Mina-Anod school-building project is being organized by Earth Coco Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. The blueprints of the school have been drafted and plans have been approved by the Department of Education.

“The event will be an introduction to the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines through yoga, song and dance,” according to Macam. “It will be an opportunity to share the rich folk traditions of the Philippines with the Eastern spiritual traditions of Yoga.

For those who have little or no knowledge of the Philippine culture, it will provide a means to connect and learn about the culture. Ultimately, the intention is to help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan and share the Filipino culture with the world.”

This three-part event will feature yoga with live music. Filipino-American yoga teachers Amy Valdez and Jenn Tamera, will be guiding the yoga class against the backdrop of native and indigenous instruments from the Philippines and around the world.

The yoga segment will be followed by music created by Soul Garden Sounds’ Jenn Tamera and Aaron Arredondo, and an Earth Coco presentation by President Patrick Doles.

“These children fill my heart with so much joy,” Patrick Doles said. ”It’s an amazing little island with beautiful people who will share what little they have with you. I will lay every brick and sink every nail with love.”

Doles will report on the state of the Super Typhoon Haiyan rebuilding and how much more help the families and children need for their homes and livelihoods.

The event finale will be a celebrative Philippine Heritage Showcase featuring the children’s folk dance troupe, “Malaya.”
