MANILA, Philippines — A Korean woman was shot dead when she walked into a robbery in progress in a cafe in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City Monday afternoon.

The victim, identified as businesswoman Mikyong Park, was shot at around 1:25 p.m. by a still unidentified gunman who had been robbing the Bean Leaf cafe along Holy Spirit Drive in Don Antonio Heights.

Another customer who came in after Park, and also fell prey to the lone robber, told police the man had shot Park when she refused to give up her cellphone, said Insp. Elmer Monsalve, chief of the homicide section of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit in the Quezon City Police District.

The robber had been in the cafe for nearly an hour, even managing to hogtie the crew members, when Park walked in, Monsalve said.
