OAKLAND, California – Filipinos and other immigrants who are thinking of adjusting their immigration status can attend free, monthly immigration clinics starting January 23, sponsored by the Filipino Advocates for Justice (FAJ.

The free immigration clinics are held every third Friday of the month from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., alternating between the Oakland and Union City offices of FAJ.

Meanwhile, immigrants who wish to pursue other services can do so at low-cost fees offered through FAJ affiliates including Naturalization and Family Immigration Assistance at affordable rates.

FAJ put up the free immigration clinics based on an observation that immigration laws are getting tighter, including increased emphasis on enforcement.

Immigration filing fees continue to soar according to FAJ, the reason the group encourages migrants to avail of the low-cost processing of papers.

“You don’t have to wait to become a US citizen to petition for immediate family members,” an FAJ statement said, “Our service fees are less than 1/2 of private attorney fees.”

FAJ provides assistance with the following– Family Petition, (I-130); Fiancee Petition, (I-129F); Employment Authorization, (I-765 — not temporary work visa); Naturalization, (N-400); Certificate of Citizenship, (N-600); Replacement of Green Card, (I-90), and so on.

Filipino Advocates for Justice is one of six agencies in the East Bay certified by the Board of Immigration Appeals to practice immigration law with accredited immigration counselors.

FAJ’s initiative also coincides with the recent announcement of President Obama, granting temporary permit status to millions of qualified undocumented immigrants.
