‘Drums of Asia’ on Jan. 31 in Oakland

OAKLAND, California – The “Elements of Rhythm: Drums of Asia” will highlight both the unifying ways in which drums bring people together, as well as the many varied forms of expression that have arisen from cultures around the world and throughout Asia.

This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, January 31at 4 p.m. at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center located in Oakland’s Chinatown near 12th Street BART in the Pacific Renaissance Plaza (PRP) at 388 Ninth Street, Suite 290, Oakland CA.

“Drums of Asia” is co-sponsored by OACC and the Korean Traditional Performing Arts Center of the San Francisco Bay Area. It will feature performances by renowned Bay Area performers:

Jason Jong and members of Hei Gu Chinese Percussion Ensemble – China

Dr. Rohan Krishnamurthy and guest – India

Bruce “Mui” Ghent and members of Maikaze Daiko – Japan

Daniel Giray and members of Kulintang Dance Theatre – Philippines

Kyoungil Ong and members of OngDance Company – Korea

Plus special collaborative finale, “Echoes of Asia”

The Master of Ceremonies is ethnomusicologist Dr. Anthony Brown of Asian American Orchestra.

General admission tickets are $10, while seniors and youth tickets are $8. A special VIP reception will be held 2:30-3:30 p.m. VIP tickets, which include the reception and reserved seating are available for $30.
