SAN PEDRO CITY, Philippines – A dozen persons were injured when a van carrying Korean tourists fell into a ravine in Tanauan City, Batangas, on Thursday morning.
Superintendent Christopher Olazo, Tanuan city police chief, said the vehicle, driven by Emmanuel Perez, a Filipino, was negotiating the Mid Island Road in Barangay (village) Suplang when the driver lost control of the vehicle at around 9 a.m.
The van, he said, fell into 55-meter ravine, causing injuries to the driver and his 11 Korean passengers.
“One Korean is in critical condition but the rest, including the driver, sustained minor injuries,” Olazo said by phone.
The victims are now confined at the Unihealth Hospital in the adjacent city of Tagaytay in Cavite, according to Olazo.
Olazo said the tourists had come from Tagaytay Highlands, a known tourist destination in Tagaytay, but it was still unclear where they were headed.
