MANILA, Philippines–Since no passenger aircraft landing of any of the terminals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) on the dates—Jan. 15 and 19—set for the arrival and departure of Pope Francis, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reminded all affected passengers to contact their airlines or travel agents about revising their travel plans.
The MIAA on Monday again alerted passengers with flights arriving on those two dates that “there will be no flights arriving at all Naia terminals from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 15 and 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 19.”
MIAA General Manager Jose Angel Honrado said the decision to block flight arrivals on these two dates was reached after a series of consultations with the different airlines operating at the Naia terminals, following the announcement by the papal visit organizing committee that there will be road closures along major thoroughfares around the airport terminals during the Pope’s arrival and departure.
The notice of suspension should guide airline operators to revise their flight schedules or come up with other options for passengers who have booked flights on those two days, Honrado said.–Maricar Brizuela
