DALY CITY — The US Coast Guard (USCG) airlifted a Filipino crewmember from a tanker in the Gulf of Mexico 23 miles south of Southwest Pass on Sunday, December 21.
Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector in New Orleans received a call from the crew of the 748-foot Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Lorelei, which reported that a crewmember was suffering from a broken left leg, reported MarineLink.com.
The yet to be identified Filipino crewmember was medevaced by a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, which arrived on scene to hoist at 12:38 p.m.
The aircrew flew the patient to the West Jefferson Medical Center and safely transferred him for further medical care. A USCG video of the Medevac is available here.
