DFA: No Filipinos in riots

MANILA, Philippines—So far, no Filipino has been involved in riots in Ferguson, Missouri, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday.

DFA spokesperson Charles Jose said Wednesday that Philippine diplomatic posts in the United States were monitoring developments in Ferguson, where violent demonstrations have erupted following a grand jury’s decision not to prosecute a white police officer who shot dead an unarmed black teenager on Aug. 9.

“We have not received reports of Filipinos being actively involved or having been affected by the demonstrations in the Ferguson case,’’ Jose said.

He said there were around 17,000 Filipinos living in Missouri. The DFA, however, had no figures yet on how many Filipinos are living in Ferguson.
