Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar — President Benigno Aquino III left Myanmar’s new capital Thursday night November 13 shortly after the close of the two-day 25th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.
The chartered Philippine Airlines plane bearing the President and his party took off from the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport around 8:30 p.m. (10 p.m. Manila time).
The trip will take about four hours. The President is expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 around 2 a.m. Friday, November 14.
From the Myanmar International Convention Center, the venue of the two-day summit, the President and his party motored straight to the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport.
His last official event was a brief meet and greet with less than two dozen overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the airport.
They represented the at least 860-strong Filipino community in Myanmar, which has a population of around 60 million.
Nay Pyi Taw is a six-hour bus ride from Yangon, the country’s original capital where the major airport and much of the country infrastructure and businesses are located.
No Philippine airline companies fly direct from Manila to Nay Pyi Taw, but only from Manila to Yangon.
