SAN FRANCISCO – New York-based Filipino-American journalist Anthony Advincula has been awarded a prestigious fellowship to visit Germany and Belgium this fall and meet with senior German diplomatic and political leaders, European Union and NATO officials.
Advincula, an INQUIRER.net US Bureau correspondent and editor-writer for New America Media will spend two and a half weeks in the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) German/American Journalist Exchange Program.
The exchange program will run from October 5-18. Sponsored by the RIAS Berlin Kommission, Advincula and 11 other American journalists from different news outlets across the U.S., will spend a week in Berlin, meeting senior German political and diplomatic figures in Berlin, attending special media briefings and visits in Leipzig and Cologne. They will spend a day each with European Union entities and NATO in Brussels, Belgium.
Advincula will extend his stay in Germany for another week to work on his project about the inclusion of immigrants and ethnic minorities in a larger German society. He will attend a Mass officiated in Tagalog, where he will interview second-generation Filipinos who were born and raised in Berlin.
Advincula will also meet with German journalists and visit their news outlets. Starting next week, he will be blogging during his fellowship https://18daysandawonder.wordpress.com/ and file stories for INQUIRER.net and New America Media.

By participating in this program, Advincula will be joining with over 600 other American radio, television, and multi-media journalists who have been part of the RTDNF’s RIAS program since the first group traveled to Berlin in 1994.
