MANILA, Philippines–A video belittling the Philippines as an investment destination has been pulled from social media after the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur protested the portrayal of the country was described in the production.

Produced by Aegis Malaysia, a business process outsourcing company based in Malaysia but run by third-country nationals, the video cautioned business owners against investing in countries where there was “inadequate infrastructure” and an “unfriendly climate.” It went on to mention the Philippines and how it was sitting on a “ring of fire” where disasters like typhoons occurred.

In a statement, the Philippine Embassy said it wrote Aegis Malaysia to convey its “deep concern” over the video, adding that the Philippines had considered “Malaysian companies as friendly and active partners in furthering bilateral and regional trade and investment.”

In response, the producers said they had pulled out the video and those still in circulation were “rogue copies.”–Christine O. Avendaño
