MANILA, Philippines—The official logo for the apostolic visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines in January 2015 has been unveiled.
Papalvisit.ph, the official website for the papal visit, released the logo with a corresponding explanation for each symbol.
“The colors of the logo (blue, red, and yellow) are the colors of the Philippine flag. The colors represent the country and its people. It is in solidarity with the victims of recent calamities that the Pope is coming to the Philippines,” read the explanation posted on the website.
The red and blue circles that appear like arms embracing a yellow circle.
“These are the merciful and compassionate arms of the Pope, the Vicar of Christ, embracing the Philippines, the pearl of the orient seas,” the website said.
“The Pope is well known for always expressing his love and care for people by hugging them, especially the poor,” said Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle in an interview.
Inside the blue and red circles is an innermost yellow circle resembling a pearl, which also symbolizes the Philippines. Inside the yellow circle is a white cross symbolizing the Christian faith.
