SAN JOSE, California–Known for her spunky style and rock band vibe, Patricia Rosal is becoming a popular figure among young Filipino Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The half-Filipina , half-German leader of All For Patricia band attributes her love of music to exposure to jazz, Broadway musicals and tunes from the Spice Girls.
Popo Pineda came to the band with his previous experience as the seasoned drummer of Moonstar88. The guitarist, Adrian Cruz, is a NU 107’s awardee for best new band artist.
Also in the band is Mark Mactal who is no stranger to playing gigs in the States, having played regularly with his other band, Schematic.
Former Cloud 9 band member Dan Medina came to the group offering a new sound and contributes his skill in playing the bass guitar. Rounding out the band is Fernando Motas who had the opportunity to play saxophone for several OPM artists.
“I started getting interested in music and singing when I was about six years old,” Rosal said. “However, professionally I started performing since my band, ‘All for Patricia’ got together in 2010.
When Rosal was in college in St. Paul Manila, she performed in plays, most of the time cast in trouser roles like being Joseph in the school’s adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and as Cinderella’s Prince in “Into the Woods.”
Growing up in the Philippines as the oldest child, Rosal was looked up to as the disciplinarian as well as a playmate by her two younger siblings. As a self-proclaimed “probinsyana” she looks at her childhood as simple yet fruitful.
“What I love most about being in a band with my five boys is that I get to be one of them and enjoy our acts together on and off stage. We maintain an open line of communication in terms of our repertoire, riff ideas, suggestions, etc. We kind of jam freely on stage and let each and every member shine on their own while we bank on our chemistry in our interpretation on some of the covers we do,” she said.
Starting out with a mainly alternative rock repertoire, they added more music to their set list with a fusion of alternative rock and soul music. All for Patricia was most recently seen at Pista in the Park, the Adobo Festival, Zen’s Filipino Cuisine and Gerry’s Grill. The band has been promoting its two hit singles, “Paasa” and “Sulyap.” Its newest single, “Paikipot,”was just released.
All For Patricia will play at Zen’s Restaurant in San Leandro on September 27, at Tribu Grill in Union City on October 11 and at Zen’s again on October 25 and November 22. It will be at Gerry’s Grill from next month on and the dates will be updated on its Facebook page.
