MANILA, Philippines—The “Big Four” universities in the Philippines remain among the top 800 universities in the world, with the University of the Philippines (UP) and Ateneo De Manila University (Ateneo) improving their rankings on the latest global university survey published Tuesday.

According to the 2014-2015 World University Rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a leading international network specializing on education solutions, UP is still the No. 1 university here as it rose to 367th from last year’s 380th place.

Ateneo also improved by placing in the 461-470 bracket from 500-550 in the 2013-2014 rankings.

While still part of the “Big Four”, De La Salle University slid down from the 600-650 bracket in 2013-2014 to the 651-700 bracket in the global university survey.

University of Santo Tomas remains at the 701+ bracket.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is still the number one university in the world while National University of Singapore is the top university in Asia.

The QS World University Rankings consider six indicators in determining rank: Academic reputation (40 percent), employer reputation (10 percent), faculty and students (20 percent), citations per faculty (20 percent), international faculty (5 percent), and international students (5 percent).

The 2014-2015 QS World University Rankings is the 10th edition of the annual higher education survey.
