ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines–Unidentified men wielding high-powered firearms abducted a Chinese national shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday in
Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Senior Supt. Jose Bayani Gucela, spokesman of the Western Mindanao police office, identified the victim as Li Pei Zhei.
Li, 18, has been in Kabasalan for the past three months already, where he has been operating a mini-mall, Kabasalan Mayor George Cainglet said.
Gucela said the police were still trying to gather the full details of the kidnapping.
Cainglet said the suspects fled with the victim on a van toward the area of Barangay (village) Buayan, also in Kabasalan.
In an earlier report, the Zambonga Sibugay police (not Zamboanga del Sur police as reported) said the suspects were last monitored heading for Siay town, also in Zamboanga Sibugay.
